ASSESSMENT TOOLS

The Global Competencies Inventory (GCI) is an essential selection tool for organisations with a global workforce. It can assist your human resource people to select staff with the right skills for an international post. Staff selected based on GCI scores usually develop effective working relationships with international colleagues, achieve higher performance and report greater job satisfaction.

What is a GCI?

The GCI measures the three capabilities that are critical for working globally. They are:

Perceptual Management (PM) which is the ability to understand people who are culturally different.

Relationship Management (RM) which is the ability to initiate and maintain relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds.

Self Management (SM) which is the ability to manage stress while working in a foreign country.

Employers should be looking for candidates with high scores on all three dimensions to be confident that they have made the right decision.

Benefits of using GCI

  • provides selection panels with reliable information about candidates' suitability for international work
  • pre-departure briefings can be customised to suit particular profiles of successful candidates
  • customised support and development opportunities can be offered while staff are deployed overseas
  • promotes a culture of success
